3 minute read

Eight races make up the program at Sandown on Wednesday, July 3rd.

There has been plenty of action enjoyed on the Sandown turf recently and the rail will be set out a whopping 12 metres around the entire course this week, while we're set to race on a Soft (6) track.

Check out my thoughts on every race and Sandown tips below.

RACE 1 - 12:25PM: Maiden Plate (1600m)

Maravich has been knocking on the door since resuming and gets a great chance at Sandown on Wednesday.

The Team Freedman-trained galloper has placed in each of three runs this campaign and was only denied by one rival at each of his last two.

He's hard fit this week and might not be offered a better opportunity.

RACE 2 - 1PM: Become An MRC Member Handicap (1300m)

Clean Reef is second-up and ready to start his journey through the grades.

The Lope De Vega filly showed promise at the trials prior to debuting and worked home well behind the talented Blue Renegade here last month.

With improvement for that experience, this looks very winnable.

RACE 3 - 1:35PM: LockettLED.au Handicap (1100m)

Mighty resumes in a very winnable race at Sandown this week.

Mighty had two starts for the Moody & Coleman yard earlier this year after transferring south from Queensland, running a credible fourth behind Satin And Silk at The Valley before only just missing behind the Stakes winner, Austmarr.

She's a winner at this point of her preparation previously and I am confident she has a lot of these covered for class.

RACE 4 - 2:10PM: Photo Finish Refund Handicap (1600m)

Furlanetto takes winning form into this contest and rates as a key winning chance again.

The Team McEvoy-trained filly has returned to action in excellent form this time, winning three of her last four starts, highlighted by her effort at this track and trip last time.

She gets some relief in the weights under Jaylah Kennedy and has options in running from the rails draw.

RACE 5 - 2:45PM: Tile Importer Handicap (1300m)

This looms as an open race with plenty of winning chances engaged, including Hazel Baby.

Hazel Baby hasn't been seen at the races since April, but she was excellent last time in, recording consecutive wins at The Valley and here at Sandown before running midfield in a couple of tougher contests.

She's trialled ahead of this return, and it looks a great launchpad for her.

RACE 6 - 3:20PM: Stow Storage Solutions Handicap (1300m)

The talented He's Beset steps out third-up and Sandown this week and will take plenty of beating, in my opinion.

He's Beset seemingly does not know how to run a bad race, and he returned to action with a fine performance and win at Caulfield before only just missing here at his latest.

He's a month between starts but does seems to find his best on fresh legs and he is my best bet on the program.

RACE 7 - 3:55PM: Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Handicap (1000m)

Mawallock looms as the one to beat in the penultimate race at Sandown.

The Trust In A Gust mare has made only six appearances at the races since debuting, but she's more than stamped herself as one to follow by winning four times, including both of her previous second-up attempts.

She will need some luck in running from a wide draw, but she's certainly up to the class.

RACE 8 - 4:30PM: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1700m)

Awash is fit and ready to win.

The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper dusted off the cobwebs with a fair effort in BM64 company back in May and has since only just missing in a pair of BM70 races over a mile and 1500m respectively.

The 1700m looks ideal and I think he'll be afforded every opportunity this week.
