A daughter of I Am Invincible established a new record price for a filly at this week’s 2024 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Purchased by former local horseman Lloyd Kennewell in partnership with Group 1 Bloodstock and Ridgeport Holdings, the filly surpassed the previous record of $375,000 set two years earlier.

"She was a bloody good filly and I thought she probably could've been at the Gold Coast or even Easter,'' Kennewell said.

"She's one of the best 'Vinnies' I've seen all year and that says something because we see a lot of them and there are some million dollar Vinnie fillies around.

"I knew she'd be expensive,'' he said.

A colt by leading sire Extreme Choice was the second highest priced purchase over the two days selling for $360,000 to Laurel Oak Bloodstock.

There was strong demand for international sire sensation Justify who had $300,000 and $250,000 lots sold, while Adelaide Hills' Balcrest Stud sold a Toronado colt out of local mare Kabini for $250,000.

Local's Mill Park Stud grossed more than $1m in sales over the two days, while Cornerstone Stud's highlight was selling a $200,000 colt by The Autumn Sun.

Will Clarken was the big buyer over the two days with 11 yearlings set to join his Sellicks Hill and Murray Bridge operation, while Michael Hickmott was also busy with eight purchases.

The two day sale saw more than $15.37m grossed on the 306 lots sold at an average price of $50,259 with a clearance rate of almost 80 per cent.

"At the end of the day, if we got within 10 per cent of last year's result, we would have been delighted," Magic Millions SA Bloodstock Consultant Adrian Hancock said.

"Heavy scratchings have impacted on the gross, no doubt, but the clearance rate getting up over 79 per cent and climbing, that's got to be satisfactory in this market.

"There's no denying that the bottom end of the market is virtually non-existent. The market just doesn't support it and, even in the middle market, you have to have a horse by the right stallion at the time and go through all the x-ray and scoping tests to be in demand.

"To get through all that and finish up with a gross of $15 million, a $40,000 median and over a $50,000 average, you've got to be pleased. Overall it's been a good couple of days of selling,'' he said.
