Adelaide 36ers players Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis have been suspended for their involvement in <i>an ugly scuffle involving spectators.</i>

Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis have been suspended over their roles in the ugly scenes that marred a clash between Adelaide 36ers and Melbourne United.

The star imports were found guilty of inappropriate grabbing or handling of a spectator after facing the single-member NBL tribunal on Monday.

Harrell was banned for three games and handed a $3685 fine for two charges of striking and a charge of engaging in a melee, while Davis was suspended for two games.

The Sixers have the option of appealing the outcome to a full-member tribunal.

Their round nine clash with United had exploded in the final quarter when a back-and-forth between former NBA player Harrell and United's Rob Loe attracted teammates and eventually fans.

The situation escalated further when the Sixers returned to the bench and became embroiled in a war of words with courtside spectators, which quickly became physical.

Four spectators, including one season ticket-holder, were ejected from the venue.

Originally scheduled for last Friday, the hearing was postponed after the Sixers retained a lawyer who specialises in "racially based, derogatory or offensive language issues" to defend Harrell and Davis.

It had emerged in the days since the incident that an alleged racial slur made by a fan against Davis was at the centre of the fracas between Sixers players and a courtside spectator.

The league is yet to announce a resolution to its investigation into the spectators' behaviour.
