Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 18th August 2024

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 18.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Wyong, Moruya, Launceston, Bordertown, Bendigo and Carnarvon.

WYONG: RACE 4 @ 2:30 PM

MEMORIA (1) is third-up today after a couple of decent runs in town to launch the prep. Placed first-up over 1000m then raced wide without cover and wasn't disgraced over 1100m at Rosehill last start. At her best over this distance. Nicely drawn and ready to win. SELFLESS ACT (2) copped a bump and went back before passing a couple in the run home last time out over 1400m at Rosehill. Strips fitter after two runs back from a spell and 1200m is her preferred trip. Can improve enough to trouble this field. PAJANTI (3) is back from a four-month spell. Opened last prep with an all-the-way win in a Rosehill maiden over this trip. Trialling well and must be respected. ALWAYS IN (6) disappointed last time but can do better.
SELECTIONS: Backing Memoria.

MORUYA: RACE 2 @ 1:41 PM

AMARANTZ (1) gets her chance to break through back in class on her last couple. Nice effort in Highway grade at Randwick two starts ago and nicely treated with the claim. Hard to beat. ANOTHER FORTUNE (3) is up in distance after a nice effort over a mile here recently and is a major player if he can run it out. THE BOOMERANG (7) has been thereabouts and while it's almost two months between runs he was sound at this trip last time and has to be considered. THREW (5) and HIGHNESS (2) have claims if they can find a length or two.
SELECTIONS: Amarantz to win. Save on Another Fortune.

LAUNCESTON: RACE 6 @ 3:20 PM

ZULU ANGEL (4) came off a break with an excellent first-up effort at Hobart. Has been kept up to the mark with a recent trial and is expected to give this a shake. ASVA (2) showed vast improvement second-up when filling a place at Hobart. Should be further improved by that outing and has to be respected. THE SPIRIT OF ZERO (3) has performed solidly in both runs this campaign and is closing in on a win. Is sure to make a bold bid here. GOLDEN PROPHET (5) ran out of puff first-up but is going to strip fitter this time for that run. Looks a likely improver against this lot.
SELECTIONS: Back Zulu Angel to win.

BORDERTOWN: RACE 5 @ 3:05 PM

JILLADORA (6) warmed to her task nicely fresh when resuming in town, hitting the line nicely to just miss the frame. The form from the has stuck up strongly in 22 days and this looks an easier task. Leading player. HEADPHONES (3) is mixing her form this time in. Turned in a good one two back in what has proven to be a hot form race but struggled last start. More than capable on her day and will take benefit from Payne reuniting. Can bounce back sharply. PRICILLA'S CHOICE (9) kicked of the campaign in solid order but has since struggled. Easier this time and is drawn to get all the favours. One of the key hopes. THE HASS (1) was a sharp winner fresh but is another that has dropped away. Carries the top weight but gets a key booking in Crowther from a nice draw. Don't take lightly.
SELECTIONS: Jilladora to win.

BENDIGO: RACE 6 @ 3:50 PM

LOVED UP LAWYER (8) resumes, now with Gavin Bedggood having formerly raced with Price & Kent Jnr. He's a lightly raced gelding who ran a narrow second at this track and distance first up last time in. He's got talent and looks well placed here. LESCOT (17) has placed in both runs back from a spell, beaten under a length last start at Murray Bridge. Should take some beating. DREAM REALITY (11) resumed with a maiden win here in heavy going and looks to have come back an improved commodity. Fitter now and drawn well, she can go on with the job. MET WITH LUCK (15) was dominant as a short favourite at Sale last start, breaking the maiden. Stable have opted to run here rather than Albury next week and the booking of Shinn suggests he's here to make a statement.
SELECTIONS: Loved Up Lawyer to win.

CARNARVON: RACE 5 @ 6:45 PM

SAINTLY CITY (10) has been racing in much stronger races of late, only finishing 4.2L off the winner last start at Belmont. Now right back to Country level and he's won 2/2 at this course and distance. Ready to fire with Faithfull engaged and she should be getting the job done if he runs to form. GOLDEN FIGHTER (1) turned in a good effort at Belmont last start when only 1.6L off the winner and should be fitter again third-up. Drawn well for Kissick, he can be handy in the run and take plenty of catching. WISE WORDS (5) is looking for her fourth win in-a-row, winning by 0.7L over 1406m at Roebourne last start. The drop in trip is a little niggle, but she's drawn well and is expected to be right in the finish. PRIMATIVE (9) bolted in two back before a disappointing effort here last start. Best form is good enough and he can bounce back. SPEEDING COMET (3) is better than he showed last start and is not to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Saintly City is the one to beat.
