Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 20th August 2024

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 20.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Albury, Grafton, Ballarat, Gatton and Broome.

ALBURY: RACE 5 @ 3:55 PM

SORRY SUNSHINE (9) was looking likely to run into the money last time out but ran into a brick wall at the furlong peg and could not recover once in the clear, finishing fifth. He should be suited by the step up to 1500m and if 4kg claiming apprentice Ella Mcguirk has better luck this time, he will be the one to beat. DYNAMIC ONE (1) dropped back in grade and finished runner-up at Gundagai a fortnight ago when trying to make all of the running that day. He slides down another class here and with the aid of a 2kg claim, he will be hard to hold out. FINAL MAN (4) had a tough trip off a wide gate at Gundagai last time out and being wide is not the place to be on that tight turning circuit. He has a superior draw this time and is set to bounce back into the money. JEDINAK (5) is racing well and another honest effort is likely. Include in all combinations.
SELECTIONS: Sorry Sunshine to win.

GRAFTON: RACE 7 @ 4:10 PM

SPIN DOCTOR (6) hasn't caused any real threat in his two runs back but is much better placed back in this grade. Hasn't won for a long time but strikes his easiest assignment in quite some time. Great chance to break a long run of outs. SALAMANCAS (5) never looked like first-up at Ipswich when always a mile back. Is sure to improve with that run out of the way and is expected to take a much more prominent role from the better draw. Sharp improvement anticipated. BACKLIT BEAUTY (8) was determined maiden winner two back at Ipswich. Not as effective last start when 31-days between runs. Drops back in trip for this and is drawn to get all the favours. In the mix. TOOTSIE (16) showed good improvement last start over the longer journey and looks better placed as he steps out to a bigger trip again. Don't take lightly.
SELECTIONS: Spin Doctor to win.

BALLARAT SYNTHETIC: RACE 7 @ 4:30 PM

MISS TORONADO (9) led and won comfortably here on debut and she was in the market at Sandown-Hillside following and didn't handle the heavy track. Better suited and will be better for that outing. She will run along from an inside barrier and is the one to beat. DERELICT (4) peaks and has been nudged out here at his last two. Maps for the run of the race and will go close. ACAPPELLA MOON (5) resumes and has won fresh. Raced in stronger last preparation and she has an inside gate and a handy 2kg claim. Has switched barns and has each-way claims. INNOCENT ENUFF (6) resumes and has won fresh. She's raced solidly in stronger city races and has to be kept safe.
SELECTIONS: With Miss Toronado.

GATTON: RACE 6 @ 3:42 PM

AMNESIA (8) changed stables earlier in the year and found country class more to his liking when resuming with a win as expected at Lismore just over 3 weeks ago. He won't have any trouble measuring up in this grade and with the advantage of the pole position, he can make it 2 wins on the bounce. ROCONONO (5) did not have much luck after having a rocky run in transit at Toowoomba last time out. He was well-found in the market that day and gets a nice swing in the draw this time. He slides down in class and is worth another chance. Each way value. HERMANITA (10) is racing very consistently and won her maiden here in May. She was run down into third place after leading at Lismore last time out and is capable of another top 3 finish in this. TAPIS MAGIQUE (12) improved quickly from her fresh-up run to finish third at Ipswich last time out nearly 5 weeks ago. She cops a tough gate but only needs some luck to figure in the finish again.
SELECTIONS: Amnesia to win.

BROOME: RACE 6 @ 6:35 PM

The feature of the day. I'm happy to put GINGER JONES (2) on top. He's won his past two in good time, sitting up on the speed and bounding away to score by 1.5L last start. He's drawn a good marble again today for Galati and he'll make his own luck up front. Leading chance on his recent figures. DARK CITY (1) has won his past five, including a lead-up to this 10 days ago by an impressive 2.1L. The outside draw is a slight niggle, though he does possess good early speed to offset the alley. Worth noting Gray rides this galloper over Ginger Jones. Likeable commodity. SACRED OATH (12) resumes after winning 3 on-end, with his latest win at Belmont rating very highly. He goes well fresh, and he'll carry no weight. The wide draw is a query, but ratings say he's good enough. WAKAN TANKA (11) is better than he showed last start and can bounce back. Undefeated at this track and trip bodes well. ROGUES POINT (4) creates interest dropping right back in trip. Tough horse who will give a big sight.
SELECTIONS: Backing Ginger Jones in the Broome Sprint.
