Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 22.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Hawkesbury, Muswellbrook, Sale, Mackay and Pinjarra.
HAWKESBURY: RACE 8 @ 5:05 PM
RIP OFF (12) improving mare who finally lived up to expectations when getting off the mark on resumption with a fast finishing maiden win over 1100m at Wyong on August 4. Zac Lloyd keeps the ride and will relish the extra distance. TRUE TO FORM (1) former import who created a big impression at his Australian debut when a gritty on-speed head victory over this trip at Kembla Grange on July 18. Kept fresh and will appreciate the claim. Can play a leading role again. MAGNUCAT (7) lightly raced mare with a ton of upside. Has the two wins from four starts and close to her peak now. Sat on a good tempo with the 60.5kg when a tiring third over 1100m at Canterbury on August 7. Can sneak into the minor money. AUDREY'S LANE (9) returns and is also in the mix.

MUSWELLBROOK: RACE 6 @ 4:45 PM
BEHIND THE STORM (10) hasn't threatened the winner in her last two starts in town but the subsequent form from the two races has stood up superbly. Is much better placed back in this grade and gets weight relief with the 2kg claimer engaged. Expecting her to take some stitching. BORROWED LUCK (9) is another that should find this easier after a rearward finish last start on the Kenso. Goes well on her home track but will likely head straight back from the draw. Watch for her climbing over their backs late. MAZITA (5) strips fitter third-up off two disappointing efforts. Drops back to a trip he's unbeaten over with four weeks between runs. Sharp improvement won't shock. Last start winner TOUGH CASE (3) also warrants consideration.

SALE: RACE 7 @ 4:00 PM
Maher-trained PARDON MY FRENCH (10) went close twice before delivering a big Maiden win at Geelong. She was heavily backed and is sure to keep improving. Maps for the run of the race and Shinn's booking boosts the confidence. HANGING ROCK (14) is third-up and is back on the turf. She has raced well in stronger city grade and Dee is a positive jockey switch for the 2kg apprentice. PLATINUM FIELD (5) has been around the mark on the synthetic. He has a low barrier and is in the right yard. Worth keeping safe. DEADLY PRESS (3) went well here and then didn't have the best of it at Geelong. Peaks and Mott is reunited. Can't be ruled out.
SELECTIONS: Sticking with Pardon My French.
MACKAY: RACE 6 @ 3:57 PM
SILVERADO MISS (6) was on speed winning her Maiden at Rockhampton spiking her figures. Doubt this is much harder and she's capable of taking the next step. HOLY CROWN (5) was cruelled by a wide barrier at Townsville and better to assess her chances on the easy Maiden win there prior. Draws awkwardly again but she can bounce with average luck. LADY MASQUERADE (8) has been within range both her starts this preparation and she has more to give. She's on the 7-day back-up and Whiteley stays aboard. DIAMOND SKY (12) has a key jockey switch to Wiggins and no surprise to see the lightly-raced galloper improve.
SELECTIONS: Sticking with Silverado Miss.
PINJARRA: RACE 7 @ 6:42 PM
MADE IN MEXICO (4) has been very impressive this campaign, just missing over this trip at Belmont as favourite last time out. This is a much easier race and although he has drawn inside, he has enough speed to get across. CJP rides and he just has to hold his form to be coming out on top. INFLUENCING (1) resumes on the back of a trial win against open company horses leading into this. He's won better races than this in his career and he draws well for the straight course. The trip is a little niggle, but he's sure to be strong to the line. MAGNUM CLASS (7) is usually thereabouts and has to be included with a strong track and distance record. PADDY'S FLYIN' (2) disappointed last start but is better than he showed there. Can bounce back dropping to midweek grade.
SELECTIONS: Made In Mexico gets the nod.
