On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Newcastle Racecourse will unite with the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, supported by Clubs in The Community, to hold its 15th annual 'HBCF Pink Race Day.'
This event has become a cornerstone occasion for the local community and a highlight of the Newcastle Racecourse calendar since 2009 when Clubs NSW (Newcastle and Hunter Valley) and the HBCF approached the Newcastle Jockey Club with the Pink Race Day concept.
In 2024 'HBCF Pink Race Day' promises to be more significant than ever, as the HBCF also celebrates its 25th anniversary of providing unwavering support to the Hunter Region.
"Founded in 1999 by Virginia and Milton Rigby, the HBCF has been a beacon of support for breast cancer patients and their families for 25 years," said Abbey McDonnell, General Manager of the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation.
"As a grassroots charity, entirely funded by our local community, events like the 'HBCF Pink Race Day' are crucial for raising funds to support Hunter Residents navigating breast cancer.
" Funds raised during the event will directly support local women and men diagnosed with breast cancer, with over 500 families expected to seek the HBCF's assistance annually.
Speaking on behalf of Clubs in the Community the Chief Executive Officer of Belmont 16s Sailing Club, Scott Williams, expressed the vital role the event plays in fundraising for the HBCF.
"The combined efforts of Newcastle Racecourse and Clubs NSW (Newcastle and Hunter Valley) have in supporting the Pink Race Day allow the HBCF to continue their valuable work in our community," said Mr Williams.
Newcastle Racecourse is anticipating a substantial turnout, with the Trackside Marquee, Pink Meadows Marquee, Ascot Lawn, Mark Murphy Lounge, and Pink Courtyard Room already sold out.
Duane Dowell, CEO of Newcastle Racecourse, expressed his gratitude towards the Newcastle community for their support.
"Many in our community have family members or friends who have been touched by breast cancer. We are proud to play a pivotal role in supporting the HBCF through Pink Race Day," says Duane Dowell.
"It's inspiring to see our community come together and wear pink as a symbol of commitment towards the cause."
