Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 02.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Rosehill, Cranbourne, Balaklava, Eagle Farm and Kalgoorlie.
ROSEHILL: RACE 3 @ 3:10 PM
Not the strongest staying field ever assembled so Gai and Adrian's Irish import NEWFOUNDLAND (4) gets his chance. His two Australian runs have been over 1900m at Canterbury, the latest a strong third when fresh from a ten-month break. Went around in 2400m+ races in Ireland so this is more to his liking. OLYMPIC GAZE (7) found the frame for the first time in 17 starts when third to Whisker To Whisker over 2300m at Newcastle last start. Dour type who has contested six stakes races so he has a class edge on most of these. KING OF CLUBS (1) has been easily accounted for in a couple of races won by Matusalem since resuming. Fitter and back in the midweekers. Likely improver. WHISKER TO WHISKER (8) scrambled home over Karmazone and Olympic Gaze at Newcastle recently. Will stay all day and on the limit weight is in the mix again. FUN SUNDAY (5) struggled in metro Saturday company last time but is a chance back in this more suitable contest.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Newfoundland.

CRANBOURNE: RACE 8 @ 5:05 PM
GANGITANO (3) resumed for the new stable and ran well enough for fifth in a bunched finish at Sale over 1206m behind Peace Treaty, who has come out and won a good BM78 in Sydney on Saturday since. Fitter for that, the rise in trip suits and he should go close. INEXORABLE (9) won his maiden well fresh at Bairnsdale, an overdue win after running some good races against quality opposition. He's certainly capable of going through the grades. WAR DRAMA (5) has won his past two in easier races but is hard to knock and still relatively lightly raced. THINK WINNING (4) was good fresh off a short spell at Sandown Hillside and has each-way claims. DESERT STAR (6) is racing well and in the mix.
SELECTIONS: Gangitano to win.
BALAKLAVA: RACE 7 @ 4:45 PM
GRUELLING (9) has improved with each run under his belt this time in. Peaking now and gets a great chance to get the job done, will just need some luck from the draw. PULAMBI (11) was an eye-catcher fresh but failed to live up to market expectations here at the latest. Blinkers going on first time should help sharpen her up. Expecting sharp improvement. TIME WARRIOR (15) lengthened nicely and fought hard to hold down a minor placing here last start. Hasn't won for a very long time but deserves respect. CLASSY REBEL (13) wasn't beaten far at the latest. Is another that doesn't win out of turn but does boast a strong record over this journey. Don't overlook.
SELECTIONS: Gruelling gets the nod.
EAGLE FARM: RACE 6 @ 5:13 PM
ZAKIYYA (13) was quickly back to form placing at Doomben and has won 2/4 third-up. Jumps from an inside barrier today and 26% stable-striker Maloney stays aboard. Fitter now and she can go one better. SUNLORD (12) switched from a Sydney stable and resumed for the premier yard with a solid placing at the Gold Coast. He has compelling metro and provincial form and Orman is a key jockey switch replacing the 2kg apprentice. He can threaten with average luck from an outside barrier. LOVEWILLCOMELATER (11) is an improver who raced favourite here last start but was cruelled by a wide barrier. He's likely to settle more forward today and third-up can be in the finish. POSEIDON RULER (7) would be a hope if he found his best. He flies third-up and has a handy 2kg claim in easier.
SELECTIONS: Backing Zakiyya.
KALGOORLIE: RACE 7 @ 6:47 PM
VAST ART (10) didn't finish off that well when favourite last time out and looks well placed coming back to 1400m today. He drops right to the minimum weight and he maps to get plenty of favours under CJP. He was good in the Farnley two back and a return to that level would see him hard to beat in this. RIVER RUBICON (3) was super last start over the mile last start at Belmont and he boasts an imposing third-up record. The outside draw is a niggle, though he has proven versatile in his racing pattern. He drops in weight and rates highly. MAN CRUSH (2) got the job done in fine style last time out, kicking strongly over 1200m to win comfortably. Out to this trip is a niggle, though the form out of his last start has been good and he draws the inside. Live chance. GINGER BAKER (1) looks set to peak third-up after a bold effort in the Farnley 25 days ago. Worth plenty of thought. SENTIMENTAL HERO (8) gets right down on the minimum now and has claims.
SELECTIONS: Keen to be with Vast Art.
