Feeney fastest in Bathurst practice, MSR cars crash

3 minute read

Red Bull gun Broc Feeney has gone quickest in the third practice session at the Bathurst 1000, while Matt Stone Racing has suffered heavy damages to both cars.

Red Bull star Broc Feeney has set the pace in the red flag-riddled third practice session for the Bathurst 1000, while both Matt Stone Racing entrants have crashed out.

After Jamie Whincup wound back the clock to go fastest of all the co-drivers on Thursday, Feeney overcame three red flags to finish ahead of Tickford pair Thomas Randle and Tyler Everingham on Friday morning at Mount Panorama.

Feeney's teammate and championship leader Will Brown was ninth-fastest in a repaired Red Bull Chevrolet Camaro after co-driver Scott Pye's high-speed crash on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Matt Stone Racing faces a tough afternoon in the garage after main drivers Nick Percat and Cam Hill's cars suffered heavy crashes during the hour-long session.

With another practice session slated for 1.05pm (AEDT) before qualifying starts at 4.15pm, the Matt Stone Racing team will be hurriedly attempting to get both cars repaired.

The session was first halted for 10 minutes when Hill's co-driver Cameron Crick crashed on the way to Forrest's Elbow.

He first hit the wall on the right side before ploughing into the left barrier, before Percat's co-driver Dylan O'Keeffe spun out at Griffins' Bend, resulting in the third red flag to end the session early.

"We'll just get in there and try and tune them up," team boss Stone said.

"The co-drivers have got one job and that's not to mess it up for the main driver.

"Unfortunately, both our guys didn't do that today."

The red flag was brought out again between the two Matt Stone Racing crashes when Jaxon Evans ended up in the gravel after locking up, but the Brad Jones Racing driver luckily avoided damage.

Randle and Everingham posted the fastest time in the opening half of the session, before a water-pump issue forced the pair back to the pits.

The Tickford duo, who struggled with a power-steering issue on Thursday, were originally ruled out of the session but were able to return thanks to the red-flag stoppage.

Imagine what you could be buying instead.
