Looking for value appears the way to go at Randwick on Saturday with Chateau Lafaite and Complacent each appealing at their current quotes.

The Chris Waller-trained Chateau Lafaite resumed with a narrow second behind stablemate Earnest Desire last start in a Canterbury midweeker.

Chateau Lafaite now contests The Great Gatsby Blu-Ray-Bm74 Handicap (1400m) where she lines up against six last start winners including Earnest Desire once again.

The full sister to Royal Descent will have taken benefit from the run and is bred to appreciate the 1400m journey at Randwick on Saturday.

She sits two pounds clear of her nearest rival (Earnest Desire) on weight adjusted figures and the three-year-old should take more upside into the event compared to Earnest Desire fourth run from a spell.

Expect Chateau Lafaite to settle worse than midfield and be full of running late with a strong early tempo likely.

Chateau Lafaite’s encouraging first up showing was good enough to suggest you can take the near each way odds about her second up and be confident of a forward showing.

In the feature race, Complacent can deliver in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

The son of Authorized was strong to the line in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) where he held off Savvy Nature.

Savvy Nature holds favouritism for the event but Complacent’s each way quote does appeal.

The pair gapped their Gloaming Stakes rivals with third placegetter Drago three lengths away.

Saturday’s 14 horse Spring Champion Stakes field is largely comprised of runners coming out of the Gloaming Stakes (1800m) and last Saturday’s Dulcify Quality (1600m).

The Gloaming Stakes appears the stronger form event of the pair and Complacent appears capable of going on with the job.

Angel Bee contests the Benchmark 80 Xirrus Sprint (1200m) after making all at this track, class and trip three weeks ago.

She meets second and third placegetters Maximilian and Shelford again, albeit on worse weight terms.

The two placegetters arguably have more scope for improvement each still early in their campaigns while Angel Bee is having her seventh run.

Angel Bee’s winning effort rated eight pounds higher than her previous master Timeform rating while Maximilian and Shelford each were still noticeably off their best.

Shelford has a sense of timing about him fourth up and with the addition of Jim Cassidy should be turning the tables.

Angel Bee saluted at healthy double figure odds last start and it is questionable whether she can replicate the result, this time at a much shorter price.
