ROSEHILL SATURDAY

RACE 3 (3) TWIRL: Excellent debut by this filly to chase keenly and take ground of the top colt Rubick over 1000m at Randwick three weeks ago, especially as splits in that race – 32.29 for the last 600m by the winner - were exceptional on a dead surface. Her obvious scope for improvement makes her the one to beat with the drop back to her own sex as the extra 100m with the benefit of race experience is certain to suit. Expect her to respond well to the application of blinkers, a ploy used regularly with success by Gai Waterhouse on her youngsters.

RACE 6 (3) CATKINS: Hardly gets the attention she deserves for a mare with a terrific record of eight wins and six placings from 17 starts. Proved in the spring she was right up there with the best of them when just beaten by her stablemate Red Tracer at level weights (57kg) in the G1 Myer Classic at Flemington and is well placed under these weight conditions with 55.5kg. She’s been very strong in two soft 900m trials that have her primed to add to her big first-up record of three wins from four starts when fresh, especially on her home track where her record is also first class.

RACE 8 (8) MONBAZILLAC: He’s been up for a while but comes in fresh after a three weeks break since his last start third at Randwick and it should work well for him in this even field with a handy 2.5kg drop in weight. No horse is more deserving of a win after a luckless run of minor placings in similar races since November carrying up to 57kg. This could be his chance as he will be suited by obvious early speed and maps to work into the race at the right time.
