Queensland metro racing moves south this weekend for the running of the Gold Coast Stakes which looks another very intriguing sprint race.
Benny’s Buttons has come up favourite following his second placing in the Sunshine Coast Cup and looks to get his chance to win now but he’ll need to be right on his game.
Plenty of these come through the Falvelon Quality behind Tiger Tees and that looks an excellent form reference for this.
Rocket To Glory and Seeking More step up to 1200m after finishing one-two in open grade at Eagle Farm 1000m and bring another form reference.
Craiglea Falcon meanwhile resumes and has strong claims on his best.
It looks a good betting race, but hopefully we’ll do our damage earlier in the day.
I’m really keen on the three-year-old Londehero in the Hot Tomato Saturday Morning Class 6 Handicap over 1200m, stepping up to face the older horses.
He carried 59kg to a strong win in open three-year-old grade at Eagle Farm last start and has just 53.5kg on his back for this one.
At $1.90 he should prove too good for this lot.
Granted he’s up against some decent horses – Le Cap has won a couple in a row, and Cum Dividend has ability particularly on a wet track.
But Londehero gets weight off all of them and is arguably already a better horse than his main rivals today.
Take the $1.90. Even at that price he looks a value play.
The bet of the day comes in the race prior where classy two-year-old Aimee chases a third-straight win.
She’s the best horse in this race, but has come up a juicy $4 thanks to the presence of boom Peter Fleming juvenile Executed.
He’s coming off a six-length debut win at Rockhampton – impressive yes, but this is a much tougher assignment and he’s coming a long way down the highway to be here.
Aimee meanwhile is trained on track, and has had three weeks to recover from her latest effort, a tough win over 1300m at Eagle Farm where she burned the candle at both ends.
Executed and I Am Boss should ensure this is run at a quick pace, and Aimee should be able to get an ideal run off the speed.
I’m expecting her to run past the lot of these.
Now, for the second time in three weeks, I’m going to take on odds-on favourite Trakstar.
This time he lines up in the Hot Tomato Flan Benchmark 90 Handicap (2200m), and once again I think the $1.95 is a bit too short.
It’s easy enough to see why he’s popular – he’s won his last two now and gets out to the 2200m which is an ideal trip.
But things won’t be easy today. He’s carrying an extra 2.5kg for starters and there are some pretty handy looking stayers in his way again here.
Home-town hope Dazzle Us looks ready to win after finishing second in his last couple, beaten just 1.8L by the talented Junoob in Sydney two back.
His latest effort was a second placing to Hi Son over 2100m, and he’s emerged as one of the better stayers up in Brisbane this campaign.
Racing Heart has been off his game in his last two runs, but gets out to his best trip now and should be in the mix.
And at the top of the weights is the grey warrior Borehole who is back in grade and always a danger on a firm track.
The $1.95 looks a bit too short again today for mine.
