The Say From SA - June 28

3 minute read

A strong nine race card at Morphettville on Saturday will be conducted with the Over The Rainbow Series for the hurdlers the highlight of the day.

A strong nine race card at Morphettville on Saturday will be conducted with the Over The Rainbow Series for the hurdlers the highlight of the day.

A promising jumper in the shape of Moudre makes the trek over from Melbourne for his second start over the jumps having made a promising debut at Bendigo in a maiden hurdle on June 15.

He bumped into a promising jumper from the Gai Waterhouse stable in the shape of Galiando at Bendigo but importantly he’s in the care of leading jumps conditioner Ciaron Maher at Caulfield.

It is interesting to note that Moudre will be looking to break a long winning drought when he contests the opening race on Saturday as his last victory was at Caulfield on August 28, 2010.

Moudre was high up in betting for that year’s Caulfield Cup but missed a start when making a last ditch attempt to break into the race when finishing fourth in the Herbert Power Stakes.

Unfortunately not long after the rising nine-year-old spent 18 months on the sidelines through injury before returning to place first-up in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m on September 7 2013.

Moudre has lengths on his rivals on the flat, but hurdle racing is all about getting around safely, but Richard Cully is sure to give him a good rideand he’s going to be extremely tough to beat.

Later in the day Tuscan Fever can get back into winning form. The four-year-old son of Tuscanos has been in sparkling form this preparation.

He’s currently a $5.50 chance in the betting and appeals as a good wager.

He’s progressed from winning a Class 1 at Murray Bridge in January to winning at Strathalbyn and Gawler on consecutive occasions before venturing to town at his past three outings with solid results.

At his latest outing here he finished a half-length second over 1600m after giving a healthy start in the run. The step up to 1800m on Saturday is certainly going to be a good fit for him.

Earlier in the day Thiamandi from the Lloyd Kennewell stable is going to be tough to beat.

The daughter of Street Boss is going to strip fitter for her first-up fifth in a slightly tougher race here on June 14, her first run in a bit over six months.

Joe Bowditch again takes the ride and from a nice draw, the $2.60 on offer is appealing.

Picture Editor makes a return to Adelaide where he was successful over 2250m on the Parks track in August last year.

He flopped on a heavy track at Warrnambool three starts back before better efforts on firmer tracks at his past two starts, but the $3 price currently on offer looks a little short for my liking.

BANKER: Race 2 No 6 Thiamandi @ $2.60

BET OF THE DAY: Race 7 No 3 Tuscan Fever @ $5.50

LAY OF THE DAY: Race 5 No 4 Picture Editor @ $3
