The Listed Tattersall’s Mile Handicap over 1600m is the final ‘Black Type’ race on a long winter.

The Brian Smith-trained Kingdoms is the logical choice in the final ‘Black Type’ race of the winter following his first-up win in the Listed Mercedes Benz Centenary Mile over 1600m at Eagle Farm on June 21.

That effort was three weeks ago and the gelding charged home from back in the field to record a one-and-a-quarter length victory over Hi Son at his first outing in 231 days.

Naturally he’s going to strip fitter for the win but at the same time he may be looking for a shade more ground now following the win.

He also went around at odds of $21 when winning last time and on Saturday in early markets he is a $2.30 chance, a little short for my liking.

It’s still an interesting race with some nice gallopers engaged including Vandalised who is aiming for five straight victories after winning has last four starts at Rockhampton and overcoming difficulties in scoring narrowly last time.

Earlier in the day Miss Cover Girl is aiming to make it five straight from as many starts when she lines-up in the Breakfast Creek Hotel Handicap over 1200m.

The two-year-old daughter of Monashee Mountain, prepared by Kelly Schweida, has gone from strength to strength and doesn’t look like she’s coming to the end of her run.

She won on debut at the Gold Coast before Schweida tipped her out for a break. She returned to win over 900m at the Gold Coast again before venturing here to score over 1030m.

Her next outing saw her settle back in the field before unleashing a strong finish to win at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight ago.

It was an impressive win from a wide gate as she raced away to record a two-and-a-half length victory.

She rises 2kg this time around, but has winning form with the weight and there’s no reason why she can’t go on winning.

It might prove to be a good day for the Schweida stable as in the race prior to Miss Cover Girl he will saddle up Tiger Dimejan in the Tattersall’s Arcade Handicap over 1200m.

The daughter of Falvelon is aiming to make it three straight since coming off a 72 day break.

She returned with a Class 3 victory over 1200m here on June 13 before rising to a Bench 90 at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m a fortnight ago.

Luke Tarrant has partnered the mare in her two runs this campaign and his 2kg claim looks to bring her in nicely here.

Good luck and good punting.
