Best From The West - September 20

3 minute read

The Sharon Miller trained Stagnite appears set to fire fresh and should prove hard to beat in the fifth event at Belmont on Saturday.

A victor of four of his six career starts, the son of Danehill Express has not been seen since his game effort behind subsequent Listed victor Rock Magic.

Sticking on strongly to finish within two-and-a-half lengths of the latter, Stagnite does appear well placed to return to the winner's stall on Saturday.

He is unbeaten at his only prior attempt at the trip and the decision by Pike to stick aboard is a good push for his chances.

Currently installed a 6-4 chance appears a worthy gamble, as on predictive ratings we have Stagnite installed the odds-on favourite.

From the gun draw he should settle just off the speed and prove very hard to hold out.

The return of the Michael Lane trained Miss Chloetamash creates plenty of interest in the sixth event.

Unbeaten in two career starts, the daughter of Sebring has displayed above average ability.

Her two trials in the lead up have been solid and all appears in order for her return on the weekend.

Jarrad Noske continues his association with the mare, having saluted at Bunbury last start.

Though taking a step up in grade she does appear well placed using Timeform weight adjusted ratings.

Her last start performance does see her rated clear and hence she presents good value at her current quote of 4-1.

If able to run up to her best, we can price Miss Chloetamash as short as even money and hence presents a solid overlay opportunity.

From the good draw she appears to get the gun run in transit and should prove very hard to hold out.
