The Melbourne Mail - December 5/6

3 minute read

It's no longer carnival time but there are still 17 metropolitan handicaps in 24 hours in Melbourne this weekend.

Rough Justice is a promising type
Rough Justice is a promising type Picture: Racing and Sports

It has the look of a long grinding battle 17 rounds of Thrilla In Manila-style back-and-forth between bookie v punter.

That's perhaps a tad dramatic but there are certainly plenty of even (if somewhat ordinary) handicaps with edges in the market hard to find.

Race 6 tonight sees Nicamorae step out looking to break back into the winners circle.

She rates highly on her effort in much better company at Caulfield two back and then was only trumped by the fairly smart Shamalia at the Valley last time.

There's nothing of that standard among tonight's rivals and she is seen as decent value at around the $3.5 on offer.

The race of the weekend might be the third on the Sandown card where a handful of promising three-year-old sprinters step out over the 1000m.

Rough Justice and Miss Mazetti are two that are seen as likely to prove up to better things, as is smart Cranbourne maiden winner Liminal.

Happy to play that trio up in quinella's exacta's and the like, leaning the way of a 40, 40, 20 distribution in the order mentioned.
