Best From The West - April 18

3 minute read

The Simon Miller trained Temporise has returned in great order and can break back into the winner's stall in the sixth event at Ascot on Saturday.

Lining up for just his twelfth start, the son of Blackfriars has displayed good ability and comes into this off a luckless second last start.

Forced to hunt up and find the lead after being slowly away, Temporise proved to race too fierce in-front and was left vulnerable over the concluding stages.

In a race clearly run to suit the backmarkers, Temporise's performance held plenty of merit and can easily be forgiven, despite being the short-priced favourite.

In nine attempts at Ascot, he has placed on seven occasions and gives the impression he will relish the step up in trip.

Since joining the Simon Miller stable Temporise has only been seen beyond 1200m once, in which he proved very impressive.

The lesser tempo of a seven furlong event, should allow him to build through his gears more efficiently and see him return a peak performance.

The form through She's A Virtue also leaves Temporise open to good improvement and he appears well placed with the aid of the claim.

In-form apprentice Joseph Azzopardi sticks aboard and is currently striking at a remarkable 42 per cent with the Miller stable.

From his last 30 runners the Miller stable is striking at 22 per cent and overall is striking at 23 per cent at Ascot.

Currently installed a 5-2 chance appears more than fair, as while we respect the chances of the Paul Hunter trained Dream Lifter, we have our market flipped in favour of Temporise.

From the awkward draw, Temporise is likely to press forward and should prove very hard to get past.

In the final event, the Darren McAuliffe trained Rebel King appears capable of upsetting fellow talented three-year-old, Sheidel.

Unseen since his below bar performance in the Spring, the son of Universal Ruler was given an extended break and has since trialled very well in the lead up.

Already boasting a victory over Sheidel, Rebel King now meets the latter on far better weight terms and if right he appears very hard to beat.

While obviously no knock on Sheidel, she did take a step backwards last start, despite still dominant.

She lines up for her sixth run since January and could be coming to the end of her preparation.

Rebel King is the fresh horse on the scene and with leading rider William Pike back aboard, he should prove very hard to beat from the favourable draw.
