Best From The West - October 1

3 minute read

The Team Williams trained Cronkite chases his fourth straight win on Saturday and presents a good betting opportunity in the final event.

Only a recent acquisition to the Williams camp, Cronkite has clearly returned in fantastic order having won with authority at this track over 1400m last start.

Formerly trained by Cliff Smith, Cronkite has relished his new surroundings and comes into Saturday's event off a new career peak.

The step up to the mile should suit as while failing at both previous attempts, he is clearly a different horse this time around.

Last start he returned from a 56 day break and hence he remains open to further improvement on Saturday.

Admittedly Cronkite has to take another step however he is one of just two last start winners and finds himself in a fairly skinny affair.

Leading rider William Pike sticks aboard (3/3) and should enjoy a lovely run in transit from the favourable draw.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, Cronkite sits clear of his rivals and with further improvement expected he looks to set a decent standard.

While no flash odds ($2.40) he still presents decent odds as we have him marked closer to an even money shot.

Pike could ride a broomstick to win of late and happy to side with him in the last.

Sticking with Team Williams in the fifth event as while at a trip short of his best, Universal Law is certainly good enough to win first up.

A winner of five of his 12 starts, Universal Law has only missed the money three times in his career and has placed in all seven attempts at Belmont.

He has never missed the money fresh and while the 1000m is a query, he should get the speed on up-front to finish off late.

The Wizard sticks and with better than 3-1 being offered about his chances we are more than happy to have a throw at the stumps.

As a side note, TopBetta will continue its King Of The Spring tournament (Epsom Day) on Saturday ($15K Total Prize Pool) and while Belmont won't play a part it is definitely worth checking out - Click Here .

BET OF THE DAY (1): Race 8 #4 Cronkite @ $2.40

BET OF THE DAY (2): Race 5 #6 Universal Law @ $4.20
