Best From The West - August 12

3 minute read

The Jason Pateman trained Gunnago is simply flying this preparation and appears well placed to make it four straight in the last race at Belmont on Saturday.

An impressive maiden winner at Northam first up, Gunnago has continued to raise the bar, most recently scoring easily at Belmont over 1300m.

Successful in returning a new career peak, Gunnago relished the heavy conditions when far too strong on-speed.

Despite rising in grade, he appears very well placed at the weights and the wide draw should suit, with Pateman likely to press forward and either lead or sit just off.

In a race lacking depth, Gunnago appears to only have to hold his form to be winning again.

As much as 2-1 is being offered about his chances, which presents good value as we have him marked close to odds-on.

He may need a bit of luck from the draw, but if able to cross, he should prove very hard to beat.

The Team Williams trained Young Gina is unbeaten from two starts and appears well placed to make a winning return in the seventh event.

Well-related, he appears more than above average and has trialled well the lead up.

Young Gina notably gets the blinkers on for the first time and from the good draw, she is sure to make her presence felt.

Although likely to get back, she should prove hard to hold out late.
