Being unable to secure a start in The Everest could prove a blessing in disguise for the favourite in Saturday’s Sydney Stakes at Randwick.
In Her Time is first emergency for The Everest on Saturday but also favourite for the $500,000 Sydney Stakes (1200m) the race prior.
The Ben Smith-trained mare could still gain a start in the $10million sprint if there was a scratching however the Sydney Stakes (1200m) is shaping as an excellent consolation prize for the daughter of Time Thief.
In Her Time was excellent first up, beating a class field of sprinters in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick a fortnight ago.
Such was the quality of her opposition, placegetters English and Clearly Innocent along with Chautauqua and Fell Swoop are all contesting The Everest.
After accounting for those Group 1 performed sprinters, In Her Time now strikes a lesser race second up.
In Her Time produced a Timeform rating of 118 on resuming.
With added fitness second up, In Her Time should be open to improvement on the run however such is the drop in grade back from the Premiere Stakes, building upon her first up display is likely not necessary.
She comfortably accounted for Takedown and Ball Of Muscle in the Premiere Stakes who she again faces here while the Sydney Stakes has already been robbed of depth with the scratching of Trapeze Artist.
The race appears In Her Time’s for the taking and the removal of Bar Plates worn in the Premiere Stakes can also be considered a positive.
Earlier in the program, Oklahoma Girl appears an excellent each way play contesting The Star Mile (1600m).
Oklahoma Girl was superb on resuming, producing a fast closing third at Rosehill over 1400m behind stablemate Wayanka and Interlocuter.
Interlocuter has since come out and bolted in over the Randwick Mile with a performance suggestive of the import being up to stakes level.
Oklahoma Girl has been kept ticking over since her first up outing with a 1200m Randwick trial.
She is unbeaten from three starts over the mile and won over this course and distance in her lone prior visit to Randwick.
Oklahoma Girl’s stablemate Invincibella has been all the rage in early betting however there is enough to suggest the daughter of Fastnet Rock is by far the better wager at her each way quote.
While there has long been a wrap on Invincibella, it is also worth noting Oklahoma Girl has beaten Invincibella during their two prior clashes.
The pair clashed twice during their last campaigns over the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
Oklahoma Girl came away with the bragging rights on both occasions, firstly when running second in the Doomben Roses (2000m) while Invincibella ran sixth and then again two weeks later when placing in the Queensland Oaks (2200m) where Invincibella again finished sixth.
