Say From SA - April 7

With Oakbank over for another year, we are beginning the trek toward the G1 Autumn carnival in Adelaide.

Whispering Brook
Whispering Brook Picture: Racing and Sports

There are Listed races on the card and we think Whispering Brook can keep her form going off a strong win last time and win again.

She was great first up for the Weir team at Moonee Valley, racing right on the speed.

The little weight she gets off other well performed runners will be very handy and the stable seem to improve these horses new to the team – they especially have a lot of luck with Perth runners.

Now that she has regained confidence, this Manihi Classic looks a perfect race to race similarly to the resuming effort and control it.

That break she can get around the bend can be the difference.

In the other feature race, the Laelia Stakes, there is a filly coming from interstate that shapes as a big player.

Pandemonium has raced very well against nice horses this campaign so far.

Not far from Deprive and then leading all the way at Canterbury, she ran in the Kembla Grange Classic and was not beaten too far.

This is a big drop in standard even though only back to Listed company and from the draw does no work.

Positioning up near the leaders, as is this stable’s way, she will give a big kick and be tough to run down.

Manihi Classic (LR)

WT: 54.0kg Type: OPEN

After a good beginning, former Flemington Group Three winner Concealer found the lead and the rail past the 800m, hugging the fence around the turn to maintain the lead at the top of the straight. From the 300m rider Jamie Kah kept kicking then drew the whip at the 200m with the challengers emerging. Under a strong ride Kah asked for one more push and they were able to hold on narrowly but gamely by a nose. Sudden Wealth needed luck turning in, being last on the fence. She kept to the fence and threaded between runners, flashing into second just short of the post. Alta Stella challenged at the 250m, looked to gather in the winner and just lost second a nose away near the line. Whispering Brook, second turning in, was out-finished but a close fourth.
