Say From SA - May 12

It is Derby day at Morphettville with the 3yos taking centre stage. Good luck finding the winner of the G1.

However we are heading in a different direction for our plays.

After we got ridiculously good odds in the end in the Nitschke Stakes, why not go again on Peaceful State in the Adelaide Guineas.

His finishing speed was helped by the tempo of that race but boy was there some finishing speed.

With the potential of a trip to Queensland in the wings, you’d want him continuing the form and he has ratings points galore on his rivals but gets to carry set weights.

Against this line up, happy to have him as the first leg of multis anywhere in the land as he’s a very nice young horse.

Let’s take him into Split Lip to also win again.

From a stable that keeps horses up for a long time, this filly was excellent coming from beyond midfield over 1100m three weeks back.

Last campaign she contested stronger races during the Melbourne carnival with the form out of those events standing up during the Autumn.

Not too concerned about the barrier as we saw last week in the Sangster – momentum is far more important from the dogleg start than covering ground.

There are a lot of horses out of the handicap here whereas she is not that badly placed.

Favourite Peaceful State, a last start Listed winner here two weeks ago, takes his record to four wins and $431,075. He was away well enough but steadily dropped back through the field to settle fourth last, three wide. Jockey John Allen waited until the 500m before creeping closer wider out, still with plenty to do in the straight at the 300m. Improving to second at the 200m he set after the pacemaker, ranged alongside at the 50m then stretched his neck in the last two strides to win courageously. Over Exposure tracked the winner wide into the straight, tried to match him and ran on very well but was outgunned late. Sircconi led them into the straight, kicked clear and looked the winner but was run down in the shadows of the post for a good third from Black And Tan who was blocked at the 200m then flew into fourth when it was all over.
