Coruscate is expected to be bouncing back from a forgettable last start outing when lining up as favourite in the final event at Randwick on Saturday.

The James Cummings-trained runner contests the Benchmark 78 Spring Racing Handicap (1200m) a month after enduring a disastrous day out at this course and trip.

Coruscate started outright favourite due to late support in what profiled as an open Benchmark 88 contest.

Unfortunately, he endured a torrid run in transit from an outside barrier, caught back and wide throughout.

To his credit, the four-year-old kept finding the line and while seventh, wasn’t beaten far.

He has since been kept ticking over with a Randwick trial and now drops in grade for the final event on the program.

The race already looked rather thin on paper and since acceptances on Wednesday, has been cruelled by scratchings.

Brenton Avdulla rides and from barrier 4 should give the gelding a charmed run in transit.

The pair should take holding out late.

Earlier in the program, Abdon profiles as an excellent each way play.

The Chris Waller-trained import backs up after a fifth at this course in a Benchmark 88 over the mile.

The UK import looked poised to work right into the race out wide at the top of the straight however was switched back to the inside onto inferior ground.

Nothing was making ground down that part of the track and all things considered, the run possessed merit.

He should be at his peak fifth run from a spell and now gets the Blinkers applied for the first time.

Stablemate Zourkhan is currently $2.70 favourite for the event however there is plenty to suggest there shouldn’t be such disparity between their prices.

The pair last met three weeks ago when running the quinella at Randwick over 1600m on October 6.

For a 1.3 length defeat, Abdon now meets Zourkhan 2.5kg better at the weights.

It’s also worth noting that clash came on a Heavy track, a surface Zourkhan thrives on.

The firmer footing on hand at Randwick tomorrow should swing things further toward Abdon’s favour.
