Group 3 George Moore Stakes, December 7 - Doomben

3 minute read

Lucky Hussler resumed in style to claim a strong renewal of the Group 3 George Moore Stakes at Doomben.

Lucky Hussler, who was fortunate to gain a start being the first emergency, settled in sixth place one off the rails, following a fast pace (first 600m 34.50).

He moved up well nearing the 200m, took a narrow lead at the 100m and fought gamely to score by a long head.

Morning Captain ($5.50 eq fav) was back in seventh place, wide with cover. He fanned wider rounding the home turn, then made up good ground to challenge mid-stretch and fought on nicely for a close second.

Startsmeup was 10th, between runners to the 600m. He was giving the leaders about eight lengths nearing the turn, got a split passing the 200m and continued to finish nicely for third.

Steel Zip ($16) was 12th to the turn and made good ground for fourth, beaten just under a length, while the top weight Famous Seamus ($8.50) was a handy fifth (but wide) to the turn, moved to second at the 200m and then battled on well under his 60kg for fifth, beaten one length.
