Addiction to Rock showed a sensational turn of foot in the straight to win the City Of Marion Stakes.
Addiction To Rock ($18) settled well back in the field, following a fast early pace (first 600m 34.84).
He was 13th in the 16-horse field as he approached the home turn, went wide on straightening and was still giving the leader about six lengths at the 300m point.
He accelerated strongly over the latter stages and drew clear to win by just over a length and a quarter.
The favourite Essay Raider ($2.40) was nicely placed from his good barrier (4) in about sixth place, between runners. He moved up well rounding the home turn and looked the winner when he took a narrow lead at the 200m, but he had no chance with the winner in the closing stages, holding on for second after appearing to have every chance.
Dash For Viz was near the rear most of the way to the turn. He got an inside run rounding the home turn and went to fifth at the 200m point. He then continued to battle on to take third, beaten two and half lengths.
