Noisy Ocean staved off Scorpio Queen and Dienekes to claim a thrilling Magic Millions Stayers Cup.
Noisy Ocean was ninth, and wide in the early stages, before moving up to be fifth (three deep) nearing the 600m. He travelled up well rounding the home turn, responded to Tommy Berry’s riding passing the 200m and grabbed a narrow lead at the 50m and then battled on to win by a neck in a good staying performance.
Scorpio Queen was midfield in about eighth place before improving wide with cover from the 800m. She fanned wide rounding the home turn, put in a good run to challenge at the 200m and kept fighting to the line for a sound second.
Dienekes ($26), stablemate of the winner, was seventh on the rails most of the way to the home turn. He got a great rails run on straightening, took a narrow lead at the 200m and then battled on for a close-up third.
The well-supported Black Jet ($2.75 favourite) settled past-midfield in about tenth place, one off the rails. He was giving the leaders about seven lengths as he commenced a move at the 600m and continued to make ground, without looking a serious winning chance, to finish fourth, beaten just over a length.
