Mossfun won the Widden Stakes, upstaging the well-backed Twirl who could only manage third.
Mossfun scored a strong victory to remain undefeated from two starts and is now headed towards the Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m).
Quickly away from her inside barrier before being restrained to fourth, three horses back on the fence and about four and half lengths from the leader Alpha Miss. Tommy Berry stayed closer to the inside on cornering with the leader Alpha Miss drifting to the centre of the track and Mossfun quickly picked up the leader going clear inside the final 200m to maintain a clear advantage to the line.
She was a little green in the straight but when Berry switched his whip to his left hand she knuckled down to score well.
Ygritte was good in defeat coming from fifth in the run outside the winner. She was shuffled back to last on the home turn and made good ground back towards the inside to close steadily being the closet on the line.
Twirl had every chance in the run, racing in second about two lengths from the leader Alpha Miss. She came under pressure early in the straight and battled on to claim third.
Alpha Miss worked very hard from her outside barrier to lead clearly. She drifted to the middle of the track at the top of the straight and tired over the concluding stages. A sound run considering the work she had to do early on in the race.
