Group 3 Strickland Stakes, June 28 - Belmont Park

3 minute read

A slowly run race was the perfect result for Fancy Feet in the Strickland Stakes.

The mare Fancy Feet settled well in fourth place despite the very slow pace (first 1400m 1:32.06).

She was one out and one back most of the way before improving three deep at the home turn.

She got to the lead at the 200m and then went on to score by three quarters of a length.

The favourite Ranger travelled in last place in the eight-horse field to the home turn

He eased wide at the 300m and ran on well in the sprint home, making late ground for a good second being disadvantaged by the very slow early tempo

Bridgestone was seventh on the rails, moved up nicely (wide) at the turn, got to fourth at the 200m and fourth on quite well for a sound third.

The second favourite Operational was fifth on the rails most of the way to 600m, was under riding from that point and kept battling on in the sprint home for fourth, also being unsuited by the lack of early pace.
