Listed Beaufine Stakes, July 12 - Belmont

3 minute read

Pininci caused a surprise when taking out the Listed Beaufine Stakes.

The $41 outsider Pininci caused quite a surprise in winning. He enjoyed a good trip, fifth on the rails and got a perfect inside run on straightening, going to second at the 200m.

He took the lead at the 100m and went on to score nicely by a length beating the short-priced favourite Smoko ($1.60).

The winner of five of his six previous starts, Smoko was trapped three wide without cover from his difficult barrier (9)

He was a handy third (but wide) to the home turn. He challenged at the 200m and then fought on for (one length) second after a difficult trip.

Recode was second last, on the rails to the home turn. He got a nice inside run in the straight, went to fourth at the 200m and battled on quite well to take (1.5 lengths) third.

Second favourite Magnifisio had a good run, fourth between runners. She moved up (three deep) at the home turn to be in a challenging position on straightening.

She then just battled on for (1.8 lengths) fourth after appearing to have every chance.
