Group 3 Vain Stakes, August 16 - Caulfield

3 minute read

Get The Nod proved too strong for his rivals in the Vain Stakes.

South Australian three-year-old Get The Nod looks very promising.

He was quickly away from his wide barrier (10) and crossed to settle in fifth place. He moved up (three wide) approaching the home turn, put in a good run in the straight to hit the lead on passing the 100m and then drew away to win by just over a length.

It was a smart effort stepping up considerably in class from his debut win at Morphettville in March and he has potential to progress to even better things.

Stingray had a good trip about seventh between runners but was blocked on turning for home.

He switched into the clear at the 200m and then ran on well for second, putting up a good effort.

Boomwaa showed his customary pace to race outside the leader (Nordic Empire) until half-way down the straight and held on quite well for third.

Nordic Empire went to the lead and set the pace until the 200m before finishing (2.5 lengths) fourth.

Zululand was ridden quietly from his good barrier (3) and settled ninth on the rails.

He improved along the rails from the 600m but was blocked from the 150m to finish (2.8 lengths) fifth, without being fully tested in a most encouraging first-up effort.

The favourite Jabali was given a good trip by Damien Oliver racing in fifth place on the rails. He got through to third on turning for home and seemed to have every chance before finishing (3.2 lengths) sixth at his first run this preparation.
