Moriarty wins 2014 Apn Outdoor Craven Plate Group 3 $125,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo+, 2000m.
Moriarty settled at the tail of the six-horse field, following a good tempo (first 1400m 1:26.96). He remained there to the 600m, fanned wide rounding the turn and moved up nicely to challenge at the 200m. He then fought gamely, proving a bit too good to score by a short head.
The favourite Rising Romance raced close to a good pace all the way; she led early then eased to second before racing outside the new leader Canny Ballad at the 600m. She got to the front at the 200m and then kept fighting well to finish second, failing by only a short head.
Vilanova was fifth on the rails, got through to fourth at the 200m and battled on for third while Slow Pace was a handy fourth and held on to take that position at the finish after having every chance.
