He’s Your Man wins 2014 The Star Epsom Hcp Group 1 $500,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo+, 1600m.
He’s Your Man was caught wide in the early stages and was eased to settle past midfield, three deep with cover. He was still well back before switching wide to make his run on straightening. He then made a strong run, getting to fifth at the 100m and kept coming to grab a last stride win, putting up a smart effort to score.
Royal Descent began quite well and raced in sixth place, one off the rails. She went wide nearing the turn, challenged at the 200m and looked the winner when she took the lead at the 100m only to be caught right on the post for second.
Hooked was about sixth, but trapped deep without cover most of the way. He moved up well to challenge at the home turn and fought on very well for a good third after a difficult trip.
Ninth Legion began well before easing to race behind the leader (Pheidon). He got a rails run at the 250m, challenged shortly afterwards but then kept battling for (1.7 lengths) fourth after seeming to have every chance.
Honorius was back in tenth place to the turn. He got into clear running at the 300m and kept making ground for a sound (1.8 lengths) fifth.
Pheidon led the field until half-way down the straight and did well in holding on for (1.9 lengths) sixth after setting a solid tempo (first 1000m 57.99).
The top weight (58kg) Boban was eighth on the rails, looked for a run between horses on turning for home and had trouble getting clear before fading in the closing stages to finish ninth, beaten four lengths.
The favourite Toydini was never a possibility. He settled near last, was second last in the 15-horse field at the 600m and did not make up any ground in the straight to finish (5.8 lengths) 14th.
