Prince Of Penzance went back from his outside barrier (9) and settled in last place. He improved nicely along the rails from the 600m, struck traffic nearing the turn but got into the clear shortly afterwards and went to third on straightening. He then finished too well, winning by just over a length in a good staying performance.

Le Roi had a perfect trip behind the leader, challenged on turning for home and then fought on well for second, just finding the late-closing winner too strong.

The Andre Fabre-trained Au Revoir led the field, setting a reasonable tempo, to the home turn. He then battled on

quite well for third at his Australian debut.

Epingle was sixth to the 800m, moved up wide from the 600m and kept battling on for (4.6 lengths) fourth.

Precedence was handy all the way and held on for fifth while the favourite Opinion was eighth to the 600m but only plugged on (wide out) from that point to finish (5.2 lengths) sixth.
