Dwayne Dunn took Deep Field across to the Grandstand side rail soon after the start to lead. He then travelled well before being challenged strongly at the 200m. But he then rallied well, drawing clear again to score impressively by a length at the post, maintaining his unbeaten record despite stepping up in class.

Driefontein was kept in behind runners in about fifth spot before switching across heels to challenge nearing the 200m. She then fought on particularly well for (length) second, just finding the winner a bit too classy.

In Cahoots was midfield between runners, went to the Grandstand rails at the 300m and fought on well for a sound third.

Charlie Boy was back in second last place in the ten-horse field to the 400m and made up good ground for (3.3 lengths) fourth, putting up a good effort.
