The Sydney-trained mare Atmospherical settled just in behind the leaders in about fifth place, travelling well. James McDonald switched her across heels, going wider on the track at the 200m, she then dashed to the lead at the 100m and went on to win impressively by a length and a half in fast time (56.45). Consorting was ridden quietly in about eighth place, between runners. He got through on passing the 300m, went to fifth at the 200m and then fought on for a sound second having no chance with the winner.
