Continuing superb form in this campaign, Tomorrowland utilized barrier two to secure a lovely passage in second. Tomorrowland powered on to lead at the 200m and came clear stylishly for an authoritative win.

From barrier one, Sierra Beel received an economical trip in fourth on the inner and kept up a resolute effort for second, ahead of Goldminer, who led the field at a genuine tempo and fought courageously for third.

Breaking Dawn produced an eye-catching effort from last, when switching to the rail for a run at the 200m he flashed home in tight quarters for fourth.

The pace was furious in this and with the manmade bias in play, as it almost always is at Te Rapa, the vast majority of the field had no hope after a few metres upon leaving the stalls. The winner Tomorrowland passed another big test today in that he could run a strong 1400m and clocked 1:21.04 for his fifth win in seven starts. The two times he has been beaten were when placed at debut for an apprentice and when fifth after a deadest slaughter by Mark Du Plessis at Ellerslie in October. The 4yo has size and speed so can make his own luck plus good or dead footing are both track conditions he enjoys. His win at Listed level today was helped by a mad leader in Goldminer going too hard in front so she could not win but held onto third due to manmade track bias and the fact she likes this sand-slitted venue. The runner up Sierra Beel does put a query again on the form as this two-win 6yo mare has now gone big in back-to-back blacktype races. She had the trail today so again the massive manmade Te Rapa track bias assisted her cause but she should not be able to measure up at this level if it is the real deal. This spring in a Ratings 65 (the grade just above maiden status) she finished seventh of thirteen at Te Awamutu (one of the lesser tracks in the North Island and it no longer has even a single Saturday racedate) beaten just under five lengths says it all. Breaking Dawn defied belief after settling last and then ran on uber-powerfully the inside late for fourth. It should have paid a dividend but the rider Noel Harris though it had injured itself or something was wrong only for it to scream home along the faster lane of the fence. Jubilate and Capone deadheated for fifth, with the former battling on okay after racing handy but the latter got home late from the back albeit the fence then one-off. Procurement, which was unbeaten here until today and a natural leader/on pacer, could not get near the front and plugged away for ninth so she can be forgiven and being a 4yo has scope still. Spin Doctor, who has a superb record on this track, was atrocious in finishing eleventh and surely something will be discovered since went wrong. The winner has scope but several that missed out here will form reverse next time out on a more normal and less manmade biased racetrack. The percentage of runners that win or pay a dividend the next time out on a more natural/normal soil and turf track, after missing out at Te Rapa, is simply staggering.
