Shining Knight wins 2014 R.S. Crawford Stakes Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA) 3yo+, 1000m.
Shining Knight went back from his outside barrier (5) in the small field and William Pike kept him in last place until switched out on turning into the home straight. He put in a strong run coming to the 200m, took the lead at the 75m and went on to score a soft win by a half-length.
Black Heart Bart was third on the rails, got into clear running at the 200m and kept battling on well for a sound second, having no chance with the winner.
Cool Trader raced outside the leader (Travinator), went to the front at the 200m and fought on fairly well for third, beaten just over a length.
Heavy Set was in fourth place, one out and one back, put in a brief bid at the 200m before finishing (2.5 lengths) fourth while Travinator led until half-way down the straight before finishing last, beaten just under three lengths.
