Suavito wins 2015 Italktravel Futurity Stakes Group 1 $400,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo+, 1400m.
Four-year-old mare Suavito settled well for Damien Oliver in fifth place, between runners. She improved (three wide with cover) from the 600m, switched out at the 300m, challenged at the 200m and then drew clear for a smart first-up win, scoring by a length and a quarter.
Smokin' Joey was seventh in the early stages, moved up wide from the 700m, challenged on straightening and battled on particularly well for a good second. The favourite Dissident was smartly away and worked a bit, racing outside the leader (Driefontein) took a narrow lead rounding the home turn but disappointed over the closing stages for third after working in the early stages.
Entirely Platinum was fourth between runners to the home turn and fought on to hold that position to the post.
Irish-bred Guest Of Honour was fifth on the rails to the home turn and held on nicely in the straight for an encouraging (4.7 lengths) fifth at his first run this preparation and first for his new trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig.
