Pasadena Girl wins 2015 Moet & Chandon Champagne Group 1 $ 400,000 at Randwick (NSW) 2yo, 1600m.
Pasadena Girl settled back in second last place in the ninehorse field, following a solid pace (first 1000m 60.50). She was under riding nearing the home turn, switched deep on straightening, took a moment to wind-up but produced a strong finish from the 200m to grab a half-length win, with something in hand at the post. She is now a Group One-winning filly who looks to have an even brighter future as a three-year-old.
Street Rapper settled well in third place behind a good tempo. He moved up well at the 200m, got to a narrow lead at the 100m before finishing a very good (half length) second.
Tarquin was back in sixth place on the rails, eased out into clear running at the 300m and kept running on well for a sound (1.5 lengths) third.
Rhode Assassin was last in the nine-horse field to the 300m and then plugged on resolutely for a surprisingly good (1.6 lengths) fourth. It was a good effort and he looks the makings of a promising staying colt.
The Barrister went to the front as expected but then ran along at a much quicker tempo (first 1000m 60.50). He held a clear break on entering the straight, only tiring after passing the 200m for a very sound (1.9 lengths) fifth.
Odyssey Moon had a good trip in fourth place on the rails, got through and momentarily looked a threat nearing the 200m but just battled from that point for (4.1 lengths) sixth.
Takedown had a good trail in second place behind the leader, briefly looked a chance at the 300m but tired from that point for (5.9 lengths) seventh, looking testing by the 1600m distance.
