Dark Musket wins 2015 Belmont Classic Listed $100,000 at Belmont Park (WA) 3yo, 2200m.
Dark Musket put up a very good staying effort to win. He was a little slow to move and raced mostly in second last place in the ten-horse field to the 600m. He moved up well (wide out) rounding the home turn, put in a good run to challenge nearing the 100m and finished too well to score a narrow but impressive win.
Favourite North Ridge travelled well in sixth place, one off the rails before switching out to make his bid on turning for home. He got to a narrow lead inside the 100m but was caught on the post, putting up a good performance in finishing a close second.
Settlers Creek raced outside the leader (Fo’ Shizzle), went past that filly on turning for home and looked the winner when clear at the 200m. But he was overhauled nearing the 50m and then held on for a good third.
