This was a torrid run G3 Open Handicap at 1400m as the time of 1:21.45 indicated with Allez Eagle winning by a nostril from Recite and an uber-brave Ryan Mark finished third. Allez Eagle got a dream run third the outer with the drop on the two leaders drag racing but only took the lead at the 40m before holding on by a lip. Recite had got a soft run fourth trailing the drag racing leaders with the winner on her outer and once angled out unleashed but just missed victory. Ryan Mark was taken on relentlessly by Salamanca throughout (it stopped to finish eleventh beaten six lengths) and he only went down half a length. It cost him the race for sure as the pair with the drop on him were the only runners to get past him and they only did so very late. Mighty Solomon ran on powerfully for fourth to be beaten less than a length and was a bit stiff as he needs clear air and wind up room. He is in for a good campaign at handicap level but it may be WFA where he is forced to concentrate locally. Mosse ran a cracker considering he had not raced for nine months. Antonio Lombardo and Gwynethanne ran respectable races and should more than pay their way this season. Pussy O’Reilly ran her last race and now will become a broodmare while Weregoingtogetcha was okay but still not showing what he is capable of at peak. Salamanca was the wrong tactics and where he goes next will be interesting with perhaps a G2 mile at Riccarton a target during the second week in November. The first four home are all classy gallopers and whatever they are set for at home will be more than competitive.
