Celebrity Miss, from barrier six, was quickly into stride and grabbed a handy spot one off the rail with a round to go. On the far bend she moved up to second, a length from the leader (All The Way), holding that position down the back straight and deep into the home turn. Prior to straightening, she took over and by the 150m pulled clear and was never in danger, hitting the line strongly.

Pondarosa Miss was wide down the back and made her move, three wide, rounding the home turn. Once balanced, out in the middle of the track, she tried to catch the winner who was well clear and only in the dying stages did she make any impression.

Smartly raced just in front of Ponderosa Miss down the back and ranged up, three wide, before straightening and looked to challenge, racing neck and neck with Ponderosa Miss, who finished slightly better.

All The Way led until just before the straight and fought well, the first four home being clear of the rest.

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

This Listed event over 1950m saw a majority on pace finish with the last start G1 placed mare Celebrity Miss winning with something in hand at the line. The mare sat outside the leader All The Way (finished fourth) and her rider Trudy Thornton had a big look to her right turning for home such was the grip she had on her charge, The result saw an almost two length win and 1:58.52 recorded for her seventh win in just twenty-two starts. She is to be given a chance at 3200m next month and then see if a Cups Triple Crown Bonus is viable. The runner up was another mare in Pondarosa Miss that carried half a kilo more than the winner. She finished strongly as normal after getting a nice tow into the race wide with cover across the top by the eventual third finisher. Pondarosa Miss still holds a Melbourne Cup berth but whether connections make the trip now is debatable but if you are not in then you cannot win. Smartly, another mare, ran a brave third after being the first to surge up wide across the top and loom into third turning for home. Fifth home was Flyinby that ran on late after turning for home ninth while the trailer to the home turn in Mangaroa Flo Jo finished seventh. Little Alfie Brown had a nightmare run wide in the open midfield then fifth and third and this 11yo will sleep well after such an outing. Noble Warrior was one-batting the run home while Empress Elect, the stablemate of the winner, was not too bad from last considering the class rise for the mare in this. Kindaleica, a normally on pacer, over-raced a lap out when buried back on the inner. He never ever looked a possibility in such a precarious position. Biologist over-raced too midfield the inner and stopped badly as if he is not a middle distance type but just a sprinter-miler. The stamina of the first two home is good and each does not mind rain-affected footing either so they could run in 3200m events next month in two different countries, with Riccarton for Celebrity Miss and Flemington for Pondarosa Miss.
