Dust Me Off wins 2015 G.A. Towton Cup Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA) 3yo+, 2200m.
In a surprise result, four-year-old Dust Me Off won only his second race in 17 starts, stepping up in class here. He travelled nicely in fourth place, one out and one back, before moving up rounding the home turn. He took the lead at the 200m and drew away to score comfortably in a solid staying performance, appearing to appreciate the Soft7 conditions.
Fulgur remained in last place in the nine-horse field to the 600m. Went deep rounding the home turn and ran on resolutely to take second showing a return to form at his third run this preparation since being transferred to WA.
Favourite Rebelson went to the front and settled nicely going as a steady tempo. He held the lead until into the straight but then only kept battling on for third after seeming to have every chance.
Drive West was handy all the way and held on for fourth while second favourite Young Lionel raced outside the leader Rebelson to the home turn and held on fairly well in the straight for (4.25 lengths) fifth, also after appearing to have every chance.
