The Diamond One took up a handy position on the rails and had the perfect run all the way to the home straight. When the field fanned she had plenty of space to make her run up to the leader. At the 150m she surged to the front and looked to put the race away but had to withstand a late run from Tommy Tucker. The victory was the third White Robe’s in a row for the Tale Of The Cat mare.

Tommy Tucker was midfield rounding the bend, got off the fence before they straightened but ran into traffic. Once balanced, he kept finding and really motored over the last 100m just failing to overhaul the winner.

Illuminati lead around the bend and into the straight. While headed by the winner and late by Tommy Tucker, she fought hard all the way to the line for a good third.

White Robe Lodge Hcp (G3)

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

The threepeat was achieved in this G3 mile Open Handicap mile by the very reliable mare The Diamond One. She never lets anyone down this Australian bred mare and after taking a trail moved up to take the lead inside the final 200m before holding on by half a head at the line. It was the eighth win in twenty-two starts for the 6yo mare and they have come on all types of track conditions. Tommy Tudor closed powerfully late for second from being buried back on the inner and carried 60kg so gave the winner a healthy 2.5kg. Illuminati set the pace and fought well while Five Kings was brave for fourth after being wide and working in the midfield then moving into third turning for home. Another Coup was an eyecatcher after being tardy and last on settling before coming home gamely for fifth beaten two and a half lengths. Locket was far from disgraced and while there was a couple of lengths away too Volcano next he copped an awful passage being wide then losing his place. Capo was okay and El Chico fair much like Meursault but the final trio home behind this lot were detached by a big margin at the line. The winning time of 1:36.14 was as expected way superior to the Ratings 65 mile held following this that clocked 1:37.61 (or almost nine lengths inferior). The Diamond One can win anything she is set for in the South Island. Illuminati looks a next up winner as does Another Coup with the former an on pacer that makes her own luck and the latter a backrunner so bad luck and track bias does apply too her.
