Sewreel settled midfield past the judge and her position remained the same around the far bend. She slid off the rail down the back and starting the home bend moved up to be closer. With good momentum she gathered in the leaders and was ready to pounce once they straightened. Although four wide, she balanced and ranged up to the leaders inside the 300m and in two strides took over. Maritimo tried to go with her but Sewreel was full of running and drew clear under hands and heels.

Maritimo was fifth, one off the fence, down the back. She moved into third and had a perfect sit as they approached the straight where she briefly held the lead but was soon passed by the winner. She ran on best of the rest but was no match for the winner.

All In Vogue was second last into the straight, pulled out widest and stormed home late to nab third.

A dominant win in this Listed 3yo filly event over 1800m was posted by Sewreel and she was strong on the home turn looming and even better the closing stages. Sewreel was winning her third race in six outings today and notably all her successes have come left-handed. It was her first blacktype win today and she won by over a length to clock a solid 1:50.59 and the reason is that time compared well to the G3 Open Handicap in 1:49.84 recorded in the race before this. Maritimo ran a sound second after sitting handy throughout while the strongest closer from the back was All In Vogue grabbing third money late. All In Vogue should enjoy the 2400m of the G1 NZ Oaks next month if aimed there. Polar Secret was a super fourth after being a clear last on settling due to blundering at the start. She is a maiden so will not be one for much longer with an effort like today to be beaten two and a half lengths at G3. Real Savvy was okay for fifth and is also a maiden filly. Queensland will appreciate a roomier venue next time out and Special Memories may be forgiveable as she went too keenly in the lead and had nothing left the closing stages. She may not be a deadset stayer but with a G1 fourth last Spring over a mile behind a since winner in Australia namely Risque the form has been franked. The margins beaten got bigger for the rest so hard to see anything further back threatening if they clash again and only wet ground could change things. Not sure the depth here was great overall as the field fell away quickly past a handful of fillies. However respect for Sewreel as she has that surge the run home that will stand her in good stead for the rest of this season. All In Vogue finished on in a sustained manner like a possible late payment Oaks player or could turn up in Australia. Polar Secret is the maiden that caught the eye as she is a winner in waiting.
