Zanteca wins 2016 Mittys Port Adelaide Cup Listed $100,000 at Morphettville (SA), 2500m.

Zanteca lay a handy fourth as the field passed the judge with a circuit remaining. Jockey Craig Williams found a beautiful spot in behind the leaders one off the fence down the back straight and when the pace quickened he kept the mare in the race. Passing the 800m the leaders began to bunch but Williams sat just in behind, then accelerated three wide at the 600m which saw her almost abreast of the leaders on the last corner. At the top of the straight her momentum carried her to the front where Williams shook the reins and put a length on them at the 200m then they ground away to the line to hold on in a good staying effort.

Ungrateful Ellen was well back and wide at the 800m and equal last just before the last corner. She threaded her way through but had to switch nearer the fence for a run and almost got alongside the winner at the 150m then battled to the post.

Falago was back and off the fence down the back straight. He was pushed wide to make his run and was widest turning in, fighting his rider. He took time to balance then finished strongly over the final 100m yet no threat to the first two.
