Once again the North Island form showed it is panels superior to the South Island when this Listed 2000m Open Handicap was won easily by Nymph Monte. It looked a dubious strength field on paper with many runners not Open Class or even near that grade plus it contained a lot of out of form types too. Nymph Monte absolutely destroyed them after sitting fifth carrying 57kg to win by four lengths in 2:02.58 and he has to be a G3 New Zealand Cup (3200m) player on November 12. It was his seventh win from twenty-seven starts and his first blacktype success. Night Nurse ran on well for second to get blacktype and the four-win mare can cope in this class in the South Island easily due to a lack of depth. Sureasyouwereborn sat close and fought on for a distant third while Princess Brook boxed on for fourth from the trail. Kaharau was fighting on late after being sixth and wide at times so will be an improver. Zhanim wilted after being handy and Motorbike Mile was grinding home from the back in seventh place. The rest were struggling in the main bar Southern Sav that missed the start badly and was warning up late, so he is still on target for the G3 NZ Cup. The way that Nymph Monte blew these away the rest cannot beat him home the next time they meet. The depth of this field was totally untrustable for sure bar the winner.
