Divine Calling wins 2017 Scenic Blast Stakes Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA) 3yo+, 1200m.
The well-travelled Divine Calling, winner of the 2013 Bill Stutt Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley for Gai Waterhouse, who subsequently raced in Hong Kong with Casper Fownes resumed here for new trainer Fred Kersley to score a very good first up win. He began well and then settled back in fourth place, behind a good tempo. He put in his bid on reaching the 200m, got to the front at the 50m and then went on to win quite impressively.
The favourite Durendal raced in third place, challenged shortly after turning for home and kept battling on well for a good second, albeit after having every chance.
Potent Secret tracked the leader (King’s Troop) going at a solid pace. He moved up nearing the home turn, got to a narrow lead at the 200m and then held on well for third.
