Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 17th and 19th of March

3 minute read

The Steven Burridge stable continued it's good form last weekend with emerging three-year-old Lim's Ripple saluting on Friday night.

Having notched up four winners two weeks ago, the Burridge stable wasted little time collecting their next winner, with Lim's Ripple justifying his solid market support in the second event.

Although safely held on debut at big odds ($94.80), Lim's Ripple was a real eye catcher, working home solidly to finish a close seventh (3L).

Ridden by Glen Boss, Lim's Ripple was left with plenty to do on straightening and while wanting to do a bit wrong, he really impressed in the run home.

While failing to feature in the finish, under the circumstances the stable would have been quite impressed with his debut performance, as was the market place.

On Friday night Lim's Ripple was sent out the $2.20 favourite and once able to settle closer to the speed, he was always going to be hard to beat.

Given a gem of a ride by Glen Boss, Lim's Ripple always travelled sweetly and while taking a while to beat off Redoubt, he asserted his authority late.

Scoring by just under a length, Lim's Ripple showed good improvement from his debut performance and looks to be a nice horse in the making.

Following Friday's success, Burridge was quick to confirm that he would be heading to the paddock.

“I’ll give him a spell, he’s still too immature,” Burridge said.

“He’s a big raw-boned and late-maturing horse, but he’s improved by leaps and bounds after his first run. "

In time Lim's Ripple gives the impression he will be better over further and is definitely worth adding to your blackbook, as when he returns, he is likely to be winning more races.

Oxbow Sun

On Sunday the Desmond Koh trained Oxbow Sun recorded his first success in Singapore, proving too good in the seventh event.

Previously trained in Australia [Old Name: Oxbow] the son of Encosta De Lago had displayed good ability for the Stephen Brown stable and now looks to be heading the right way.

Unable to feature in his Singapore debut, Oxbow Sun showed good improvement at his second start before leading throughout on Sunday.

Perfectly rated in front by Benny Woodworth, Oxbow Sun gave a good kick in the straight (he was entitled to) and simply was too sharp.

Coasting to the line to score by just under two lengths, Oxbow Sun took full advantage of other's misfortune with Ares, favourite Toliman and First Precinct all scratched at the gates.

While somewhat of a surprise to the market place, Oxbow Sun is certainly more than capable on best form and may have turned the corner for Desmond Koh.

On his Australian form, Oxbow Sun still has a few lengths up his sleeve and it's now hard seeing him taking a backwards step at his next outing.

Admittedly he had all the favours on Sunday, however it could be a real confidence booster and he remains under strong notice.

If able to return to the level of form achieved in Australia, Sunday will certainly not be his last win and Oxbow Sun is certainly worth following up.
