2017 Old Comrade Stakes Listed April 15 - Ascot

3 minute read

Great Shot wins 2017 Old Comrade Stakes Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA), 1600m.

After seconds at his last three starts, Great Shot broke through for a good win here, his third at stakes level. He soon settled in second place, tracking the free-running leader (Dezzies Dream) at a good tempo. He challenged on turning for home, got to the front at the 100m and then fought gamely for a good win.

Infathuated settled back in third place, moved up to challenge at the 200m and fought well for a good second.

The favourite Man Booker settled back in fifth place, one off the rails and was still six lengths from the leader in fourth place and underriding nearing the home turn. He then kept battling on under his top weight (60.5kg) to take third, without looking a winning chance.

Dezzies Dream was brilliantly away and she went immediately to the lead and then ran along, setting up a clear advantage. She then fought back well in the straight, only wilting over the closing stages for (3 lengths) fourth.
